Pepsi U 16 Int'l Tourney Ends On A High

An uninformed observer who happened to chance upon one of the many matches that took place at the UNILAG Sports Center and the Onikan Stadium, Lagos could have mistakenly concluded that the African qualifiers for the FIFA U 17 Championships were underway.

The event was the Pepsi U 16 International Football Tournament, involving teams from Nigeria and four other West African countries.

Visiting teams were the Planet Soccer Academy of Ghana, the Dragon Youth Academy of the Republic of Benin, the Sylla Football Academy of Cote d'Ivoire and the Academy Delta of Togo.
The visiting teams were joined by players from the Pepsi Football Academy, grouped into PFA North, PFA East and PFA West while the Football
College, Orile-Imo, completed the number.

In the finals, the Pepsi Football Academy West defeated the Football College 1-0 to claim the trophy, while the Academy Delta of Togo won the visitors plate, beating the Dragon Youth Academy of Benin in a penalty shoot-out.

In his address, the PFA Director, Kasimawo Laloko said: " We are proud to state that the Pepsi Football Academy is the only academy in Nigeria with players or former students in all cadres of the national teams from the U 17's, through the U 20's, the U 23's and the Super Eagles."

The trophy for best-behaved team went to the Planet Soccer Academy of Ghana, while the MVP award was won by Frank Oluaye of the Football College.
Nnamdi Oduamadi of the Pepsi Academy West won the highest goal scorer award.
